This second-hand Japanese petty knife is a rare knife these days. Sukehisa is a vintage knife producer from Tokyo in Japan. The knives were originally made by blacksmith Masayasu Yoshitomo, who apprenticed at age 15 under his father in 1952. Even though the Sukehisa knives are far from new, they are as light and thin as a modern Japanese kitchen knife.
The handle is also quite unique: the “bessaku” style handle is a lovely, no-frills handle made in rosewood with two bass pins.
This knife has been lightly restored: the wooden handle is polished and oiled, while the blade have been lightly polished, but without removing the patina.
Note: the alloy used in this knife is not stainless, so it may potentially discolour and patina if not kept dry. After using, I will recommend you to wash and dry it immediately to avoid rust.
The edge is resharpened using a series whetstones with a 4000 grit finish.
