How to measure knife for a custom saya

To make a custom saya it’s crucial to be precise, knowing where to place the pin and be sure the blade fits into the wooden sheath. So having the knife at hand is undoubtedly the best way for me to make a custom saya for your knife.

But as we all know, shipping your favourite knife over a long distance, isn’t very tempting. That’s why I’ve made this guide so you can measure the knife’s dimensions, giving me a reasonably good starting point. You may also provide the name and model of your knife (like ‘MAC MBK-95’), as I may find the exact dimensions online.

To measure your knife, please use a good ruler, yardstick, measuring tape or similar. It works best if the knife is measured in millimetre (mm). Please attach photos of the knife as it helps me to draw a prototype of your knife.

Though the picture below features a knife with a wa-handle, this method also works as if you have a knife with Western handle.

Please read chapter 5.3 in our terms and conditions before ordering.
