Tensei Knives

Sustainable knife making

Buying new things is often unnecessary, when there are so many quality products to be found second-hand. That’s why I have decided to focus on restoring and upcycling second-hand knives

I try to set sustainability first in my craft. Therefore, I am mostly using recycled woods, from old furniture to scrap lumber. The reclaimed woods ranges from oak, walnut,  mahogany, to teak. I also use some new materials, such as bog oak, elm and birch from Norway and Sweden. Reclaimed beech and oak from Denmark are often used to make custom saya.

When making custom handles, though, I sometimes supplement exotic or stabilized pieces.

The knives I am selling are tensei: upcycled and restored, giving them a new life.

Who am I?

I am a high school teacher from Norway. I am self-taught in knife sharpening and woodworking.

Since beginning of 2020 I have been sharpening knives on Japanese whetstones professionally. I worked as the in-house knife sharpener for a renowned kitchenware store in Bergen between 2020 and 2022, while also sharpening and repairing knives at my workshop.

After thousands of knives sharpened, I now feel experienced enough to teach knife sharpening to others. I’ve already held 12 entry-level knife sharpening courses in Norway, and I will continue to do so.
